Why Edison gained the title of inventing the light bulb.

Since the first workings of the light bulb, there are many different names who pop into the conversation. Thomas Edison, to say the least, was not one of the first on task of the light bulb. In a race to complete a practical light bulb Edison out shined the rest.

The reason Thomas is known worldwide for "inventing" the light bulb is because he made it practical. Practical as in cost efficient and an increased life span of the bulb.

Joseph Swan is another name who gets a lot of attention in the case of the light bulb. In 1878 Swan received a patent in the UK. Though his lamp was quite spectacular, it was merely a demonstration lamp and not quite the light bulb they hoped of.

Shortly after, Edison realized what the problem was. He insisted the filament in the bulb is the key to a practical bulb. Edison set his mind on high electrical resistance filaments. Thomas tested over six thousand plants examining each material. But at last he had found it. Carbonized bamboo filament, this bulb could burn for more than twelve hundred hours.

Swan had taken Edison's improvement and took his new bulb to an electrical lighting company. Edison quickly sued Swan for patent infringement but swan had his own claims. After butting heads the two joined forces and formed Edison-Swan United.

The biggest reason Edison is named the inventor deals with what happened after. With Edison-Swan United growing bigger many other inventors called the surrender and joined forces with Edison or ended up selling their patents to him. Edison was now lighting all of the world making life that much easier.

With Edison being the first to make a practical bulb and perfect the bulb, he is known as the inventor of the light bulb. There were many others working on the same project but nobody had found it until Edison had. He had found the longest lasting bulb that would change the way the world works. This is why Thomas Edison earned the name, inventor of the light bulb.
