There are many sports in the world today. What was the first sport you ask? There are many speculations that are all surrounded by mystery. Wrestling dates back to thousands of years BCE. "We know because the famous cave paintings in Lascaux, France, dating back to 15,300 years ago, depict wrestlers"("The 5 Oldest Sports in the World"). Wrestling was used to show off your masculinity and strength in effort to earn respect and hierarchy.  Some of the very first  signs of wrestling were traced to the Sumerians. They settled nearly 5,000 years ago. Also the Egyptians were thought to have wrestled as well, supported by several wrestling scenes discovered at Beni Hasan in the tombs.  Not much is known about wrestling in the era BCE, but it was known that there were two different styles or rules. First, in non-chronological order, is GrecoRoman wrestling. This specific style of wrestling focused on only upper body attacks. More closely related to a bod

Why Edison gained the title of inventing the light bulb.

Image
Since the first workings of the light bulb, there are many different names who pop into the conversation. Thomas Edison, to say the least, was not one of the first on task of the light bulb. In a race to complete a practical light bulb Edison out shined the rest. The reason Thomas is known worldwide for "inventing" the light bulb is because he made it practical. Practical as in cost efficient and an increased life span of the bulb. Joseph Swan is another name who gets a lot of attention in the case of the light bulb. In 1878 Swan received a patent in the UK. Though his lamp was quite spectacular, it was merely a demonstration lamp and not quite the light bulb they hoped of. Shortly after, Edison realized what the problem was. He insisted the filament in the bulb is the key to a practical bulb. Edison set his mind on high electrical resistance filaments. Thomas tested over six thousand plants examining each material. But at last he had found it. Carbonized bamboo fil

Rise of a Black Male Named George Edwin Taylor

Image
George Edwin Taylor was born into a hard and troublesome childhood. Little did he know he would be a very successful man and even a candidate for the President of the United States of America. George was born in Arkansas in 1857. His mother was free and his father was enslaved. George and his mother decided to start a new life in a new place. They moved to Illinois. Illinois did not go how they had hoped. With his mom passing away, the La Crosse court system fostered George to a black farmer named Nathan Smith. George lived with Nathan until he turned 20. Before George left, a political mind had intrigued him. He insisted George to go and get some education and obtain a superior education. George attended Wayland University in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Although he attended Wayland University he did not earn a degree because of money and health issues. After his college years he returned to La Crosse and found a job as a newspaper reporter and editor. This led directly to his inter

I Got 99 Problems and Impeachment is One

Image
How do you solve a problem in the white house? It is really quite simple you see, just kick them out. What I am referring to is the impeachment of president Andrew Johnson. As he was the first president to get impeached, he has gotten a lot of attention. You may be asking why he was impeached , and here is why. Andrew Johnson was the vice president of president Abraham Lincoln. If you did not know Mr. Lincoln was assassinated! After the assassination, Vice president Andrew Johnson assumed presidency. The accusation for his charge on impeachment was caused by his decisions of removing secretary of war, Edwin Stanton. By doing this Johnson effectively violated the Tenure of Office Act. That was not the only reason as to why he was impeached. After vetoing many acts and bills including the Civil Rights Act, the Freedmen's Bureau Renewal Act, First Reconstruction Act, Second Reconstruction Act, and the Third Reconstruction Act. After all of these vetoes, some of them being ov

1/3 of Students Graduate Within 6 Years

Image
Can you believe that only one-third of college students who start at a public college will graduate in the next 6 years. That means you or some of your friends will not be graduating. Listen closely if you want to succeed and have a heads up going into college.  From high school to college there is a big transition. There are many ways to keep your head above water in the endless river of school work, quizzes, test's, and exams.  The most important, number one rule, is time management and how you spend your time both on classwork and studying. Once you get your schedule you should immediately start planning times to study through the week and time to put effort into your studies.  Another key is attendance. Just showing up and participating in class is the easiest way to put yourself in a great spot for success. Talking to your professors may not be your favorite thing to do but it will help you as the professor has a greater knowledge of the lessons and the class in gener

About me

A Few Things About Me When I was a boy I was very energetic. I would always be doing something outside or inside that involved being active. This being said English was never my strong suit. I was always more focused on sports and recess. In my youth I played a lot of football. I never played for an official team or club but we played every weekend. I was not the kid who loved going to school to learn, I was more ready for recess or lunch to hang out with friends. Through middle school I was the same way. I played on the middle school football team in my seventh and eighth grade years. Through high school I had stopped playing football. I met many new friends and they convinced me to try out for the soccer team. Soccer had gained my full attention. We had practice every day if not practice we had a game. In the off season me and my friends would still kick around and try to hone in on our skills for the next season. I never did
